A Magazine Ad for the First Hoi Polloi Tarot

How cool is this? My friend Brant sent me this image of an advertisement for the first edition of the Hoi Polloi tarot. I have no idea who Ideal House is. I imagine they were some sort of marketing firm, seeing as they were on Madison Avenue in the mid-century. But aside from the fact that they were in the Lefcourt Colonial Building, I can’t find out any other information about them or how they were connected with Reiss and his tarot.

  1. Hi, interesting read. Have you heard of any counterfeit Hoi Polloi cards? I sold a deck on eBay this week and the buyer says they are counterfeit. They were one of several tarot decks in a box I purchased at a live auction about 15 years ago. The box got stored away and I just came across it. This is the best info I’ve come across. Thanks!
