How cool is this? My friend Brant sent me this image of an advertisement for the first edition of the Hoi Polloi tarot. I have no idea who Ideal House is. I imagine they were some sort of marketing firm, seeing as they were on Madison Avenue in the mid-century. But aside from the fact that they were in the Lefcourt Colonial Building, I can’t find out any other information about them or how they were connected with Reiss and his tarot.
Hi, interesting read. Have you heard of any counterfeit Hoi Polloi cards? I sold a deck on eBay this week and the buyer says they are counterfeit. They were one of several tarot decks in a box I purchased at a live auction about 15 years ago. The box got stored away and I just came across it. This is the best info I’ve come across. Thanks!
I haven’t heard of any counterfeits, but I know some people have made copies of the deck. If you like, you can send me some photos and I’ll give you my opinion. My email is melissa.zupan366@gmail.com.
